Sunset After Sunset
This afternoon, I met with Shelna at a cozy cafe in front of her workplace, called La Kantina. The atmosphere was comfortable, and I love their playlist, it matched my own Spotify music playlist. It was the kind of instrumental music like Khruangbin, that’s feels good for working, creating, or just chill.
While I was in the middle of an online tarot reading session with a client, Shelna shared some exciting news, she had just landed a new job! She’s incredibly talented in the creative field, especially in content creation. She has an intuitive eye for capturing the perfect angles, whether it’s a model, a product, nature, and places. Everything. She also genuinely enjoys the editing process, making everything she photographs look even more captivating. We’re also work together and you can check out her portfolio at Shelbi Creative .
After that we go to Dimastos Sunset Point. When we enjoying the beautiful sunset, a woman suddenly approached us. “Hi, can I sit here?” she asked, holding a bottle of Bintang beer in her hand. Her name is Nadya, and she was from France. She told us that her husband was from Bulgaria, and they now lived in Switzerland. She loved it there because she was surrounded by mountains and nature. Before traveling, she had worked as a scientist, researching diseases such as cancer. But she had decided to take a break to travel the world. Besides that, in Switzerland she is a pole dance instructor in Chrome Studio .
She shared how she had recently visited Karangasem and stayed with a local family there, an experience that deeply touched her. She said the family there so friendly and warm to her. She had completely fallen in love with Indonesia, especially Bali. Every time she looked at the ocean, she kept repeating, “Impressive!” as if she couldn’t believe its beauty.
I offered her a tarot reading, and she was excited since she had never had one before. She pulled three cards: The Star, is symbolizing her biggest dreams coming true because she allowed things to unfold naturally. Temperance, is reflecting how she was always surrounded by kind-hearted people who brought balance into her life. Knight of Swords is representing her adventurous, easygoing personality and love for exploring new experiences. Then, she pulled the Death card, which signified a major transformation in her life. The image of a glowing doorway on the card symbolized stepping into a completely new chapter. Now her journey is the beginning of a brand-new life for her. Her oracle cards were “Golden Opportunity” and “Boundaries,” reminding her to embrace new possibilities while also protecting her energy from anything that didn’t align with her.
Two days later, Nadya invited me to watch the sunset again before she returned to Switzerland. This time, we went to Batu Jaran Hill, another beautiful viewpoint. We met at Ulu Resto, where I grabbed some vegetable spring rolls to break my fast at sunset. I once participated as tarot reader in the weekend market at this restaurant, but it turned out that the event organizer did not continue the market because not many people passing by. Yeah, the street very peaceful.
As we watched the sky change colors to pink, she suddenly mentioned that her grandparents were Muslim from Morocco. She was familiar with Ramadan and even reminded me when it was time to break my fast, since I enjoy the view, I almost forgot. It's really nice to have friends to break the fast with, sharing food together with a beautiful view in nature. I brought my Egyptian tarot deck, a gift from my client, and she pulled three cards: Diversity, Taste, and Will. These reflected her love for variety, she disliked monotony and she have her own style in living this life. The cards encouraged her to trust her intuition and follow what she truly loved. If she believed in manifestation, this was a reminder to trust her vision completely. Her angel cards were “Forgiveness, Progress, and Strength,” and she felt like they perfectly connected with her journey.
She also mentioned that this time, she didn’t want to take too many pictures, she just wanted to be present and enjoy the moment. Yes, the view is much more beautiful when we look at with our own eyes. I told her that I write my daily story lately when I get home, so my days are memorable.
Bali feel truly magical, where strangers become friends, and the simplest conversations can leave a lasting impression under the glow of a setting sun.
Thank you,
Aninda Juni
