An Unexpected Call Led to Deep Talk

How an Unexpected Call Led to Deep Talk, Fortune, and Inspirations.

Suddenly, a woman contacted me. She introduced herself as a driver who was taking an American tourist around, and the tourist was looking for a tarot reader. The driver said she got my contact from my friend Ani in Ubud, who works at a healing sound venue called Askara Sound Bali. At that time, I was at Drifter Cafe in Uluwatu, working on a poster design for a client’s event, drawing, and write story. It had been raining nonstop from morning to evening but feel so peaceful. I always believe that if I feel comfortable and relax in a place, I get good fortune. Earlier that day, I had breakfast with my friend Shelna before she left to work at a villa and cafe to produce content and editing. Anyway, The American tourist was staying in Seminyak, and we scheduled a session for the next morning at 10 AM at Kanvaz Hotel, Seminyak where she stay.

The next day, I took a Gojek from Jimbaran to Seminyak. When I arrived, I sat in the lobby, waiting for her. Her name was Belinda (name changed for privacy), and she is a mix of American, Taiwanese, and Korean. She was 36 but looked incredibly young, like someone in their twenties. She told me she frequently visited Bali because her best friend, who owns Krakoa Chocolate, always encouraged her to visit.

We had our tarot reading session in her room. She had a spontaneous and cheerful personality. She kept switching tables, trying to find the perfect one for our session. Then we sat in front of her long dressing table, to lay out the tarot cards. As always, I started by tuning into her thoughts using my tarot cards. And then she began asking about her love life. The conversation grew deeper as she started to connect with me. At one point, she said, “Wow, you’re a really skilled tarot reader. I haven’t shared much, but you already know the answers.” I was actually being quite careful and general with my words, yet she still felt personal.

Our session lasted quite a while, so much so that she decided to extend our time. Our reading session started from her love life, goals in the future, and even she asked about her mother. She said her mother has a restaurant in Taiwan, make traditional Taiwanese food. She was curious about how she could help her mother in business. Then what was seen was that she could help her mother with something creative, like marketing but in her own way. The most interesting part? She pulled the same oracle cards twice at different times. The messages were: “Expect a miracle—have faith that your prayers have been heard and are being answered” and “Inner Goddess—awaken the goddess within you through dance, self-care, and appreciating your divinity.” We were both shocked! She admitted that she had been praying silently and felt a strong need to express herself through singing, something she hadn’t done in a long time. She fully trusted the messages. I could sense her spiritual side, so I asked, “Are you into spirituality?” She then shared how much she loved meeting new people and exchanging knowledge, especially about Human Design.

She had been considering starting a counseling service as her life purpose but felt hesitant about charging for sessions. I gave her an insight that in 1:1 counseling, money is just a tool. For a start, she could accept donations. I explained that money is an energy exchange, a way to respect and appreciate her time, energy, and knowledge, just like how we pay for education in schools or institutions. She paused for a moment and said, “Oh… you’re right.” She also felt that meeting me was no coincidence. While in Ubud, she had planned to attend a sound healing session but canceled for some reason. Instead, she simply received my contact from my friend who worked there.

Toward the end of our session, she pulled another oracle card, suggesting she needed to recharge, ground herself, or visit the beach. I asked, “What’s your favorite beach?” She answered, “Hawaii. When I arrived there, I felt the island’s power so deeply that I just cried. I also felt like the spirits there were trying to communicate with me.” She even recalled a time when, as she was about to sleep, she heard a child’s voice inviting her to play. She responded, “Sorry, we live in different worlds. I want to sleep, please…” Since she still had a few days in Bali, I recommended Melasti beach if she wanted to swim but of course, she would follow her intuition.

After the reading, out of nowhere, she told me, “You must always be yourself, be happy, do what you love, and never make decisions based on someone else.” Then, unexpectedly, she handed me a bunch of snacks from Australia. She mentioned that before coming to Bali, she had spent two days in Australia visiting a friend. She probably doesn't eat sugar, because she mentioned that she never eats dinner either. As I was about to leave, she asked, “What else do you do besides tarot reading?” I pointed at my tote bag and said, “I do graphic design and create art. Oh, this is my artwork.” She took a picture of the bag and said she might need a logo design for her brand, as she already had some business ideas.

After meeting her, I found a nice, affordable warung on Google Maps near my location in Seminyak called Warung Dedalu, they had delicious fried rice! Then, suddenly, when I checked my phone, I saw that Shelna had promoted my design work on her content creator agency. You can check our portfolio here: Shelbi Creative
